Equity Research Challenge
Our Company Valuation Competition
The Equity Research Challenge, FEP Finance Club’s yearly competition, is a unique opportunity for participants to develop their knowledge in Business Valuation and Equity Research whilst challenging themselves.
This year you will be tasked with developing an Equity Research Report and Presentation on a company of your choice from the processing chip Industry (Ex: Nvidia, Intel, ASML, Qualcomm, Samsung, Texas Instruments, Broadcom, etc…).
This competition is sponsored by Deloitte and the 1st prize is 2 Summer Internships in the Financial Advisory Department at Deloitte Porto offices.
Requirements:
• Teams must be between 2 and 4 members.
• The report is limited to a maximum of 10 pages for the main content + 10 pages for annexes.
• All contents must be original and produced in English
• All contents (Report, Excel Spreadsheet and PowerPoint Presentation), must be submitted in the announced deadlines.

Assessment
Assessment
The Equity Research Report is the first component of this challenge, with its weight on the final score being 50%. The Presentation is the second component of this challenge with a weight of 50% on the final score. Depending on the number of teams enrolled in the competition, there may be a selection process for the second part of the competition, which will occur between the 29th of April and the 12th of May. Only the teams with the best reports will be chosen for the second part of the competition.

Both these components will be evaluated by a panel of 5 Juries incluiding Professor Jorge Farinha (Master in Finance Director), Professor Miguel Sousa (CFA Institute Research Challenge Faculty Advisor), 2 professionals from the Financial Advisory Department of Deloitte and a CFA Charterholder from the CFA Institute.

Preparation Sessions
Alongside this competition there will be 4 preparation sessions to help you make a better Equity Research Report and Presentation and enhance your Learning Expericence.
5th of April (online session)
Given by CFA Society Portugal, this workshop will allow you to pinpoint the specificities of your company’s business model that make it a differentiating (or not) business relative to its peers. These competitive advantages will prove to be of great importance when assessing the real value of the business you will be delving deeper into, contributing to the building up of the story that the business you are focusing on tells for its future.
This qualitative step is of utmost importance in a business valuation, being a critical stepping stone in providing the best financial insights into the company you are analysing.

5th of April (online session)
This session is designed to help all participants to better understand the challenge by presenting a practical example of a valuation.
9th of April (in-person session)
